Sand County Foundation sponsored a discussion about the Deepwater Horizon oil spill’s interaction with the hypoxic zone in the northern Gulf of Mexico at the Soil and Water Conservation Society’s annual meeting in St. Louis on July 20.


Environmental leaders gather to improve water quality in Wisconsin

Sand County Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Dane County Land and Water Resources Department, hosted a gathering Monday in recognition of new efforts in Dane County to improve water quality.

Leopold Conservation Award launched in South Dakota

A new partnership between Sand County Foundation, the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association and the South Dakota Grassland Coalition is accepting applications for the $10,000 Leopold Conservation Award, which honors South Dakota farmers and ranchers who demonstrate responsible stewardship and management of natural resources.


SCF co-sponsors stewardship tour in Wyoming

Sand County Foundation co-sponsored a tour of the 7E Ranch near Shirley Basin, Wyoming. The tour, which was also sponsored by the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and the Wyoming Department of Agriculture, took place June 24.

Leopold Conservation Award in Texas presented to Jim Bill Anderson

A lifelong passion for preserving prairie land seeded by a high school summer job that didn’t turn out quite like he expected has earned Panhandle rancher Jim Bill Anderson the 2010 Leopold Conservation Award for Texas, a prestigious recognition conferred by Sand County Foundation and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as part of its Lone Star Land Steward Awards program.

Nebraska Governor Announces Leopold Conservation Award Winner

Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman, Sand County Foundation President Brent Haglund, and Nebraska Cattlemen President Bill Rishel announced the Kalkowski Family as the recipient of the 2010 Leopold Conservation Award during a press conference on Thursday, April 22 at the State Capitol in Lincoln. The award is presented to private landowners who practice responsible land stewardship and management.

Consulting group donates a day of mowing at the Leopold Memorial Reserve

EC3 Environmental Consulting Group generously donated a day of forestry mowing at the Leopold Memorial Reserve March 18. The contribution resulted in three acres of buckthorn, an invasive species, being removed from the Reserve.


SCF holds community meeting to discuss Wisconsin's Jersey Valley Watershed
